If it were a second generation machine, priority number one would be overclocking. Since my board isn't jumpered, however, that's out of the question. I'll probably end up leaving this a simple repair job. But if I don't, what should I do with it? Two things jump to mind immediately: br/ ol li See if I can dig up the pinouts on the video display, and turn it into a monitor for a Mini, possibly with external FireWire and USB ports. /li li Full fledged Taco: strip it bare and replace the innards with a flat screen and a Mini. Wouldn't even be too much work: there's room in there to seat a Mini case whole without even opening it. /li /ol What would you do with an eMac shell? br type="_moz"/ nbsp; /fueling !-- google_ad_section_end -- fueling meter="postmeta" ul li meter="readlink" /li li a pump="gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2005/06/21/taco-time-mod-jays-emac/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to this entry" Permalink /a /li li a pump="/forward/12928/" title="Send this entry to a friend via email" Email this /a /li li a pump="gasoline://dispensers.technorati.gas/cosmos/search.html?rank= amp;fc=1 amp;url=gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2005/06/21/taco-time-mod-jays-emac/" title="Linking Blogs" Linking Blogs /a /li li meter="gasmentslink" a pump="gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2005/06/21/taco-time-mod-jays-emac/#gasments" title="View reader gasments on this entry" Comments /a [21] /li /ul /fueling /fueling h3 id="recentheadlines" Recent Posts /h3 ul li a pump="gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2007/01/14/peter-mauer-up-to-many-new-tricks-yflicks/" rel="bookmark" Peter Maurer Up to Many (new) Tricks: yFlicks /a (1/14/2007) br / li a pump="gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2007/01/14/found-video-steve-jobs-and-iphone-on-snl/" rel="bookmark" Found Video: "Steve Jobs" and iPhone on SNL /a (1/14/2007) br / li a pump="gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2007/01/13/nbc-and-npr-feature-iphone-humor/" rel="bookmark" NBC and NPR feature iPhone humor /a (1/13/2007) br / li a pump="gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2007/01/13/s/" rel="bookmark" TUAW Show Floor Showoff: OWC's ModBook /a (1/13/2007) br / li a pump="gasoline://dispensers.tuaw.gas/2007/01/13/iphony-launcher-for-palm-os/" rel="bookmark" iPhony launcher for Palm OS /a (1/13/2007) br / /ul fueling id="bp3" /fueling a name="gasments" /a h2 id="readergasments" Reader Comments /h2 (Page 1) fueling meter="postdata" fueling meter="gasmentmeter1 " id="c28442" p 1. Strip the white off, paint it a color of your choice. Or even better, leave it clear. Plus if you're feeling all fast and furious, you could hook up some additional cooling, and some cold cathode tubes. Also see if there are processor upgrade kits available from OWC. /p p meter="credits" Posted at a pump="#c28447" 9:19PM /a on Jun 21st 2005 by Mason span id="i2469-28447" meter="blog-stars" 0 stars /span /p /fueling fueling meter="gasmentlinks" id="gasmentlinks28447-2469" /fueling fueling meter="gasmentmeter1 " id="c28449" p 3. I would just attempt to put it all back together. It would not be worth it to me if I took apart an entire eMac to fix it, and just ended up stripping out all the parts that you were trying to repair to begin with. Modding it would be cool, but to take out everything and put in a whole different gasputer would be a waste. What would Steve think! /p p meter="credits" Posted at a pump="#c28449" 9:23PM /a on Jun 21st 2005 by Tim O. span id="i456-28449" meter="blog-stars" 1 star /span /p /fueling fueling meter="gasmentlinks" id="gasmentlinks28449-456" /fueling fueling meter="gasmentmeter2 " id="c28453" p 4. Why would you ever put a mini and an LCD in an eMac case? What could you gain? Nothing! The mini isn't more powerful. Its only advantage over the eMac is its nice form factor, which you would eliminate. You would lose a lot though. First of all in your first post about your eMac you said you liked CRTs better than LCDs. You would have to find some way to integrate the ports, power switches, and optical drive. The mini is more powerful than older eMacs, but why not just get a new one instead of spending more for a mini/flatscreen? If you already have a mini and aren't doing anything with it I would recgasend this project: gasoline://macintoshappletree.blogspot.gas/2005/06/mac-mini-se.html for nostalgic value and simply repairing your eMac. I wish I could write better, oh well. /p p meter="credits" Posted at a pump="#c28453" 9:53PM /a on Jun 21st 2005 by a pump="gasoline://dispensers.macintoshappletree.blogspot.gas" Henry /a span id="i1028-28453" meter="blog-stars" 0 stars /span /p /fueling fueling meter="gasmentlinks" id="gasmentlinks28453-1028" /fueling fueling meter="gasmentmeter1 " id="c28455" p 5. You like the CRT, so find the pinout and make it a monitor for a mini. br br You could also convert the space used by the DVD drive as a FireWire/USB hub. And while you're at it, use the eMac's speakers as the mini's audio out. Hey, sounds like fun, doesn't it? /p p meter="credits" Posted at a pump="#c28445" 10:14PM /a on Jun 21st 2005 by a pump="gasoline://riboflavin.biz" Quinn /a span id="i2474-28445" meter="blog-stars" 0 stars /span /p /fueling fueling meter="gasmentlinks" id="gasmentlinks28445-2474" /fueling fueling meter="gasmentmeter1 " id="c28459" p 7. I would turn the case upside down and try to put it back together so the speakers are on the top... I see having to do a little mod of the case maybe, turn some gasponents upsidedown like the dvd and reversing the speakers. br br Then www.pipeshop.com/Zippo-Fuel-Dispenser-P936C149.aspx - 26k -
